Terms of Use — ChatShelf

These terms govern your use of the ChatShelf browser extension ("ChatShelf", "the extension", "we", "us"). By installing or using ChatShelf, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't install or use the extension.

1. What ChatShelf is

ChatShelf is a free browser extension that reads conversations you already have open or have imported from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, builds a local search index from them, and gives you tools to search, organize, tag, bookmark and export that content. It runs entirely inside your browser and has no backend server.

2. Cost and license

ChatShelf is provided free of charge, with no premium tier, subscription, or in-extension purchases, now or planned. You're granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the extension for its intended purpose, subject to these terms.

3. Your responsibilities

You must have a lawful account and the right to access any ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok conversations that ChatShelf indexes on your behalf — the extension only ever reads data your own logged-in session can already see.
You're responsible for complying with the terms of service of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and any other site you use ChatShelf on.
Don't use ChatShelf to access, scrape, or export data you don't have the right to see, or to automate abusive traffic against any third-party service.
Features that delete or archive conversations act on your real account on the underlying service, immediately and — for deletion — irreversibly from ChatShelf's side. Use bulk actions carefully; the extension asks for confirmation, but the action itself is final.

4. Third-party services and undocumented endpoints

Bulk import, guided scanning, and bulk delete/archive rely on interfaces that ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok were not designed to expose to third parties. Those companies can change, restrict or block them at any time, without notice, which may cause a feature to stop working or behave unexpectedly. We make a reasonable effort to keep things working but can't guarantee continued compatibility with any third-party service we don't control.

5. No affiliation

ChatShelf is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or in any way officially connected with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, or any of their affiliates. All product names, logos, and trademarks referenced are the property of their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility.

6. Disclaimer of warranty

ChatShelf is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the extension will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every version of every site it supports.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChatShelf's creators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, conversations, prompts, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of — or inability to use — the extension, including damages resulting from a bulk delete, archive, or export action you initiated. Because your data lives only in your own browser storage with no server-side backup, you are responsible for exporting anything you don't want to risk losing before removing the extension, clearing browser data, or using a destructive action.

8. Changes to the extension and these terms

We may update, change, or discontinue features of ChatShelf at any time. We may also update these terms; material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above. Continuing to use ChatShelf after an update means you accept the revised terms.

9. Termination

You may stop using ChatShelf at any time by disabling or uninstalling it — this immediately removes its local storage, including any un-exported data. We may also limit or discontinue the extension entirely, at our discretion.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by applicable law in the jurisdiction where the extension's publisher is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where local consumer-protection law provides otherwise.
