Install

Up and running in about a minute

Claude Toolbox is a Chrome extension. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to configure before it works.

Install from the Chrome Web Store

  1. Open the Claude Toolbox listing and click Add to Chrome.
  2. Confirm the permissions prompt. It asks for access to claude.ai and nothing else.
  3. Open claude.ai and press Alt + C.

Install manually

Useful while the extension is in review, or if you would rather run the source you can read yourself.

  1. Download the extension folder, and unzip it somewhere you will not delete by accident.
  2. Open chrome://extensions in a new tab.
  3. Turn on Developer mode with the switch in the top right.
  4. Click Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder.
  5. Open claude.ai and press Alt + C.

Chrome shows a “Developer mode extensions” notice on start-up for manually loaded extensions. That disappears once you install from the store instead.

Build your first index

Search needs an index. Open the panel and click Index my conversations, or run it from the extension popup.

Indexing reads your conversation list, then fetches the most recently updated conversations to index their message text and capture their artifacts. It uses the Claude session you are already signed in with, in the tab you already have open, and stores everything on your machine. You can stop it at any time and pick up later.

By default it fully indexes your 400 most recent conversations. If you have more than that, raise Message depth in Settings and run it again — older conversations are still searchable by title and summary in the meantime.

The five things worth learning first

  • Open and close the panel Alt + C
  • Search everything Alt + F
  • Command palette Alt + K
  • Bookmark the latest reply Alt + B
  • Continue in a new chat Alt + Shift + N

Browser support

Chrome 116 or newer, and the Chromium browsers that share the same extension platform: Microsoft Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera and Vivaldi. On Edge and Opera you may need to allow extensions from other stores the first time.

Firefox and Safari use different extension platforms and are not supported today.

Uninstalling

Right-click the extension icon and choose Remove, or open chrome://extensions and remove it there. That deletes everything Claude Toolbox stored in your browser. Your Claude account and conversations are not affected.
